Jie Wen is an accountant, university lecturer and experienced mortgage advisor. He is currently working at Oceantide Wealth and he is known as the knowledgeable and kind “lecturer Wen”.

When he was asked the reasons why joining Ocean Tide Ltd, he explained that “I am trying to combine learning with practice.” “Despite the economic models learned from school are mature and could predict the trend of market and business, they fail to explain how today’s society is operating. Only being exposed to the dynamic world and applying theories into practices could help me explore and gain more.” After realizing that academics could not fully satisfy his desire for knowledge and the world, Mr. Wen decided to delve into the ever-changing financial market.

“It was not by chance to become a mortgage broker, but I joined Oceantide Ltd accidentally,” Mr. Wen mentions, “I learned and got CeMAP certificate, then I was introduced to Oceantide by a friend, thus I joined the firm, became a partner and began my mortgage broker journey.”

As for two totally different identities, “university lecturer” versus “mortgage advisor”, Mr. Wen says he has triple responsibilities for students: proper guidance about the industry, suggestions on career development and Q&A. As a mortgage advisor, “I am merely helping clients to solve problems and difficulties, it is of vital importance to stand in the customer’s perspective to provide quality service.” Double identities bring challenges to Mr. Wen, sometimes he is overwhelmed by tasks, he does enjoy such a busy life, “I have a strong desire to know the outside world, so I will never satisfy and keep on experiencing, learning and exploring. No matter lecturer or mortgage advisor, I satisfy myself when helping others solve problems.”

In addition to “knowledgeable university lecturer” and “professional mortgage broker”, Mr. Wen used to have a “Rock and Roll” fancy. “I was crazy about music, learned to play guitar and formed a band when I was a senior high student, but unfortunately, I finally chose another secure path—attending university entrance examination and studied finance & economics.” Mr. Wen analogizes guitar as “beloved ex-girlfriend”, every time thinks about it will remind him sadness. “But life is filled with trade-offs, if I had been bent on rock music, could I have a handsome salary job and a happy family?”

Being cheerful and gentle, Mr. Wen always brings laughter and happiness to the office. He has dealt with over 100 mortgage applications with a total sum of over £30m for the last three years.
